Start play Song issue!
Good afternoon everyone!
Sorry for the many questions, but I’m trying to finalize the script once and for all. I managed to solve the timeline scrubbing issue thanks to the script I downloaded here. I just had to reduce the number of beats, otherwise the locator was moving too fast. Now I can scrub through the timeline and start the song from that point… unless I press stop twice! At that point, it no longer matters where the locator is — the song will always start from where the small triangular play marker is positioned in the timeline, which in this case is at the beginning.
On the Minilab 3, when you move through the timeline using the knob and press play on the same knob, the small play marker is automatically positioned at that point.
Is there a way to achieve the same result in CSS?
Basically, when you press play, the marker from which playback always starts should be updated to the current locator position.
Thanks again, and I hope someone can help me!
Here is a bad video that shows what is happening. As you can see, with the CCS Script, i can’t get the playback start point connected to the locator that i’m moving, while the Arturia script works as expected. I’ve tried every script “song” parameter, but i’ve not find enything that mention a “start playback from here”. Thank you!

I tried using the “continue play” command but unfortunately it doesn’t work. In the first case, I added the action to the knob that performs scrubbing. When I move along the timeline, the playhead keeps moving and it’s not ideal, but if the green marker is set (Insert Marker), from that moment playback will always start from there—whether I press stop twice or click somewhere else in the timeline.
I also tried assigning the reaction to the play button, but had no success 🙂
While investigating in Live, I found that the only way to get the green marker back to the locator position is by selecting Playback > Move Insert Marker to Playhead.
But the marker will no longer follow the playhead, unlike what happens with the Minilab 3.
Where did you get “Playback > Move Insert Marker to Playhead”
Playback isn’t a menu category in CSS and I don’t know of an action called ‘Move Insert Marker to Playhead’
The ‘continue playing’ action will ignore the location of the insert marker and continue playing from where it was stopped
Hi John, how are you? I’ve found other users with third party controllers, that have the same issue. It’s old, and i think that Komplete Kontrol has resolved this issue: https://community.native-instruments.com/discussion/4233/how-to-i-move-the-playhead-in-ableton-using-komplete-kontrol-s61?tab=accepted
I’ve seen the new Novation Launch Control, that is Arrangment View oriented. But almost everything can be done in CSS. Do you think that is it possible to get infinite encoder and the insert marker connected to the playhead in CSS?
Thank you so much!
Hi John, sorry I wasn’t clear earlier: the Move Insert Marker to Playhead function is found in Live, under the Playback menu.
What I’d like to do is move the playhead across the entire timeline—just like how the encoder on the Minilab 3 works—and have the Insert Marker (the green triangle that appears in Live when you click on the timeline or press stop twice) follow the playhead.
That way, I can stop playback and resume from the same point, even if I’ve clicked on the timeline.
The issue isn’t about inserting a cue point/marker, but rather about controlling that green triangle in Live which determines where playback starts after clicking in the timeline or pressing stop twice.
The second issue is that the knob stops once it reaches its maximum value.
If I have a 3-minute song, I can’t move all the way to the end.
I have no idea how the Minilab manages to achieve this, and I was looking for a way to do the same in Control Surface Script (CSS).

Thank you John! I’ll try it ASAP. I’ve discovered another thing: while the Arturia encoder Is endless, the Twister not. Si the play head stops moving when the knob Is at it’s max value. Is there a way in the “get value” ti set am infinite number?
Thank you again John!
