Ableton automatically selects that track when solo button is triggered
Hi everyone,
I’m trying to solve a workflow issue in Ableton Live related to track selection when using Solo via a MIDI controller (Novation Launch Control).
Problem:
Whenever I trigger Solo on a track, Ableton automatically selects that track and switches the view (Device/Clip View follows the selected track).
This becomes very disruptive, because my view keeps jumping around while performing.
Goal:
I want to trigger Solo without changing the currently selected track (i.e. no UI focus change).
What I tried in Control Surface Studio:
- Standard Solo mapping → causes track selection (expected behavior)
- Attempts to “re-select” previous track → not reliable / not working as intended
Question:
Is there any way in Control Surface Studio to:
- trigger Solo without selecting the track, or
- prevent Ableton from changing the selected track, or
- force the selection to stay on the previously selected track (stable, no jumping)?
I assume this might be a limitation of the Live API, but since Push seems to behave differently, I’m wondering if there’s a workaround or advanced scripting approach.
Any ideas or pointers would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
