4 days of work of work…..gone

Just lost 4 days worth of coding…..

Went to open CSS and all the .Jsons are empty – the controller template and the script are totally empty.

The script was loaded one minute and then gone the next….?

Is there anyway to recover this?

FFS 🙁

Hi,

If the controller template json file itself is empty then probably not unfortunately.

If you have previously generated the script into Ableton, the script.json file will also be in the midi remote script folder, so you can get that back.

Are you using the latest version of CSS 2.8.3?

It’s done it again, It keeps freezing when generating a new script and it erases all the script and controller data when it happens.

There is no save as button so the only way to keep on top of these random outages is to keep manually backing it up in the folder, which when you’re constantly editing is a mission.

I have time machine plugged in so I least I can recall something this time.

Hi John,
Thanks for your response.
I updates CSS on Monday so yep its the latest version.
The Script goes blank on the MIDI Scripts side as well I checked that last night.
It’s so strange – at the moment I am just updating it every 5 minutes on time machine

“There is no save as button” since version 2.8 there are save buttons which save direct to the json files when clicked.
Can you post a screenshot of CSS when this happens please.

Hi John,
Yep spot on, I save the file every-time I make an alteration but the issue for me is that this saved file (both the controller and the script) get wiped each time I encounter this issue.

If was thinking if save as was possible then creating backups would be super easy.

At the moment I seem to have a system that creates enough fail safes to lessen the affect of these glitches, so that’s a good step and a lesson learnt.

Next time it happens I will get some screen info.

Thanks
