How can I get my APC40 script to behave as expected?

Hi,

I’m having problems getting my simple APC40 script to play ball. I’ve tried isolating the functions and exporting using a different computer but nothing seems to work. There are no errors generated.

When I use the native script the controller works as expected so I don’t think it’s a hardware problem.

Here’s a list of the issues:

  • The 1st ‘Device Control’ encoder won’t display LED feedback – no matter what I do, whenever I load a script generated by CSS, even an empty one, the LED ring goes blank
  • None of the encoders display the value they refer to – I think this worked in a previous version (although I could be mistaken), now I have to use reactions to display LED feedback, is this right?
  • When encoders are assigned to macros or FX sends they intermittently get stuck at their current value – using my mouse to click on the clip grid seems to clear this but that’s not suitable for playing for live
  • When faders are programmed to macros or FX sends the minimum and maximum values aren’t correct until the fader has been fully raised and lowered a few times, then they work – again not suitable for playing out
  • Finally, can I check, are the variables m1-m20 local? Do I have 20 across the whole script or each set of reactions?

I really like my APC40, the more recent models aren’t built as well, so I don’t want to give up on it. Currently I’ll continue to use the standard script with some static assignments but I’d love to get CSS working properly so I can make more dynamic assignments for my sets.

I’ve tried this on an M1 Mac and Windows 10 PC, both running Ableton 11. I updated to the latest version of CSS but these issues persist.

I’d be very grateful for any help you can provide.

Cheers,

Neil

Have you setup the MIDI script settings in Ableton’s preferences/settings > MIDI tab?

Hi John,

Thanks very much for your response.

Unfortunately I have already gone through the steps in ‘How to fix your broken midi remote script’. Midi script settings are correct. Nothing seems to make a difference. I’m wondering if it’s a particular problem with the APC40?

I did try to upload my script with this question but it exceeded the maximum file size.

Any other ideas?

Cheers,

Neil
