Laggy behavior after update to Live 12.3
Since updating to the latest version of Live, my script for my Nanokontrol 2 is lagging heavily in updating faders and knobs in Live, It seems to be a script issue because I tested it with the generic MackieControl script and everything is smooth sailing. I also tested out building a new script that was super basic just for 8 volume fader controls and it has the same issue.
I forgot to mention I have a user.py too. Principaly too rescale “sensitivity” of knob of my Midi Twister Fighter because some navigation was really fast and crazy to play. Now I can just change a value in my user.py file to ajust every scale like I want.
But I was fine before Live 12.3
Hi there,
I can confirm the same behavior for me with a Launch Control XL2 and a lot of messages going back & forth.
As an Ableton beta tester, I have noticed this problem for quite a lot of beta versions between 12.2 and 12.3. I have to admit I did not take the time to narrow it down to one specific change of version.
However, it is very clear that is was not the case in 12.2.
And I can confirm it happens whatever the number of controls programmed in CSS and even with an empty Live session. I did the test with 1 control on the master fader and the default Live session clean as it opens.
I am very much willing to send more precise info if I know what is useful ( @JohnC ?).
Thank’s for investigating.
Hey thanks for your feedback.
This lagging behaviour doesn’t seem to happen in Live 12.3.5b1 Beta for me. Can you confirm if this is the case for you also?
I have tested in Live 12.3.1 and can confirm this lagging behaviour.
I also tested with the same script in Live 12.3.51 beta and the lagging behaviour doesn’t appear to be present in there.
I tested using older versions of Control Surface Studio code with Ableton Live 12.3.1 and the lagging behaviour is the same.
So this appears to be a change in Ableton Live 12.3 which is causing the problem.
Hello John,
Thank you for your answer.
12.3.5b1 did not solve the problem on my setup (Launch Control XL2 with a default live session). I still have the laggy behavior.
Again, if I can be of help to narrow down the reason of this, do not hesitate to let me know what to do.
Thank’s
Benjamin
ok thanks Benjamin
Late to the party, sorry just saw this thread. I am experiencing the same issue with my Midi Fighter Twister and 12.3. I have been in contact with Ableton support – yet to be resolved, although they did make it clear they are “not able to offer individualized support for custom remote scripts.” My mapping controls the first 16 controls on 16 channels simultaneously.
For anyone wanting to use their scripts without the lags, you can download the Ableton version prior to 12.3 on their official page, and you can just install it as a second Ableton, that way you can use something like stem separation in the newest version (if you need it) and save the stems somewhere, then open the old Version again. It’s a quick fix until this issue is resolved.

Would not recommend to use Ableton 12 and higher as it has no midi PC messages support in vst.
