LED feedback on changing modes

I’m having a hard time getting lights to work in my alternate mode.

In mode 1, I press button 1 on the softstep to turn on a device for the selected track.  The LED comes on.  When I change tracks the LED updates as expected.

I switch to mode 2 using button 10, and I’m able to keep an LED on for button 10 by using when “mode is enabled”.

I now press button 1 in mode 2 to take Send 1 from 0 to 100%.  It works in Ableton, but the LED for button 1 does not turn on.

I’ve messed around with some of the LED settings without luck.  It’s also strange that I had to use a control override of “absolute” to get the send to listen in the first place. Without absolute the send would go from 100% to zero, but would not toggle back and forth. It would also not go from 0 to 100%.  Chat GPT told me that using absolute is the issue, but I’m unable to get the toggle going without it.  That is strange, because in mode 1 it behaves as expected.
