Multiple Midi Devices in a Single Script

Hi John and Remotify Team,

Ableton only allows 6 simultaneous control surfaces but I want to use 8. Can I create a single Remotify controller that is actually comprised of multiple midi devices? I would ensure that there are no overlapping midi messages. For example, I would ensure that each midi device transmits on a unique midi channel. Let’s say that the Remotify controller is named “Combined Controller.” Then I would make a script and name it “Combined Surface.” Then, in Ableton, I would assign the “Combined Surface” as the control surface for each and every one of my midi devices? Would that work? Thanks.

Hi neil,

This wouldn’t be possible within a script. What you would need to do is somehow combine them outside of Ableton so that they appear as a single control surface option in the preferences menu of Live.
Maybe this can be done with a Midi Interface? just had a look at this one and it does mention ‘MIDI merger’ which sounds like what you would need: https://www.gear4music.com/Recording-and-Computers/ESI-M8U-eX-MIDI-Inter…

Would love to know if this is possible too 🙂
