REDBOX navigation with 2 controllers
I previously used the CSS 3 MIDI Remote Scripts with a Novation Launch Control XL. Since it had 8 tracks, it worked perfectly with a single Red Box to launch clips across all 8 tracks with proper backlighting (showing whether a clip was available or not). I could also use Red Box Navigation across the entire set without any issues.
However, I decided to upgrade my setup and bought two Xone K3 controllers. Since each controller only has 4 tracks, I can no longer use Red Box the same way in my live set. Having two controllers means I would need to use two separate Red Boxes and navigate them independently, which is not practical for me.
Is there any way to use Red Box and Red Box Navigation as if both controllers were a single controller?
Yes. Make sure you add a Red box (session box) to both scripts and turn combination mode on too (this is a menu option in the session box mapping type).
You can also set the initial offset position of them, i.e. for the second controller, have its redbox positioned 4 tracks to the right so its controlling tracks 4 – 8.
You can then use navigation to move them together as though they are one red box.
Hello, thank you for your answer.
I tried to do it, but I couldn’t. I see it’s a good option, but I reached out to Allen & Heath and they gave me an easier solution. It’s a way to connect both controllers so the computer detects them as a single unit, so I can easily use only one Redbox. However, I will keep trying your method until I finally manage to do it.
Thank you very much for your time — I really appreciate it!
