Some Feedback about the Forum
Hi Remotify Devs,
I’ve been using the new Community Forum for a while now and I think it’s certainly a step up from the previous Forum.
I like the easy to use formatting options and the ability to insert pictures and code inside the posts.
I also like that we can receive notifications about updates on posts.
There are a few elements that I believe could be improved upon (I’ve ordered them according to what I consider priority):
- OP can not reply with formatting options: the Original Poster (OP) does not have access to the option to reply on their own posts with a reply with formatting options. They only have access to the “comment” option on either their own original post or on other people’s replies. When OP wants to use pictures or formatting to explain its issue, it can only do so by updating the original post.
- Comments are unnumbered and are not linkable: comments used to be numbered and you could link to them, which was a useful feature if you wanted to refer to the comment in other posts.
- Order of the posts can’t be changed permanently: AFAIK I can’t change the “Order by” option on the homepage permanently. I liked the way it used to be ordered, according to which posts are active, but each time I go to the Community Homepage by clicking on the “Community” button, the order reverts to “new”. Could it be made possible to save our preferences?
UPDATE: I tried using the “Active” order today (22/08/24) and the order is the same as ordering by “New” (the other Order Types seem to work fine).
UPDATE 2: The “Active” order seems to be working again (tested on 28/08/24) - You can’t upload multiple json files separately: This is a bit of a downgrade from the previous community forum. It is possible to upload multiple json files but you need to select them together in the pop-up menu. If the files are in different folders it becomes a hassle to select them together.
- It’s not possible to delete uploaded json files: After uploading a json file, it is not possible to remove it again. It is possible to override the upload by uploading another json file. EDIT: The files I’ve attached to this post were to test out if I could remove them after an edit; it’s still not possible.
- The Original Post is always visible on every page of comments: when there are many comments on a single post, you need to navigate to different pages to see the later comments. On every such page the Original Post is always visible at the top. If this Original Post is particularly long, then you must scroll down a bunch before reaching the comments. This post is an example of the issue. I would opt to have the Original Post only be shown on the first page, or to have the Original Post be folded on the other pages.
Thank you!
EDITS:
- 22/08/24: Changed list to a numbered list. Added #2 “Comments are unnumbered and are not linkable” + added an update to #3 “Order of the posts can’t be changed permanently”
- 28/08/24: Added a 2nd update to #3 “Order of the posts can’t be changed permanently”
