How to Assign a Controller Input to a Mapping
This guide shows you how to assign a physical control on your MIDI device (such as a knob, fader, or button) to a mapping in Control Surface Studio.
Prerequisites
- You’ve already added a mapping to your script.
- You’ve already added and configured the Controller Input in the attached Controller Template.
Identify the Controller Input
Hover your mouse over the Controller Input you want to assign on your MIDI controller. A label will appear showing the input name.
Example: knob 9
Open the Mapping’s Input Menu
- In the Script Panel, locate your mapping.
- Open the Input dropdown menu for that mapping.
- Search for the control name you identified (e.g.
knob 9). - Click to select it.
Once selected, the assigned control will be:
- Shown by name in the input menu.
- When you hover the cursor over the input menu, the selected Controller Input will Highlight in orange in the Controller Template panel.
Tip
You can always reassign the input later by opening the same menu and choosing a different control.
